What are Medical Pearls?
Medical Pearls are a collection of free, email-based educational services for medical trainees (including medical students, medical residents and clinical fellows).
Ever feel like you may miss out on learning about critical topics during your clinical rotation? Some trainees feel that if they don't see a patient with a particular problem, they may not adequately learn about that topic.
That's where Medical Pearls come in.
Each day, you will receive a different clinical question whose answer represents a 'Pearl' of knowledge in a given field. The expectation is that you will endeavour to find or work out the answer. Once you have done this, you should review your answer with your clinical supervisor. Make sure they've subscribed to teacher's mailing list for their area of specialty.
By using Nephrology Pearls, I felt like I covered my personal learning objectives more completely during my Nephrology elective.
Our first project, 'Nephrology Pearls', has been field tested in the Division of Nephrology at the University of Toronto. We're eager to invite other training programs to give it a try.
